Meet Kalob
My name is Kalob. I’m a Project Manager and Research Coordinator at the Midwest AIDS Training and Education Center in Chicago, IL, and I’ve worked on HIV initiatives for over 9 years. Throughout that time, I’ve committed myself to using my personal social media platforms to share essential information to empower individuals and our communities.
Stigma and discrimination create harmful barriers in society, preventing individuals from reaching their full potential and enjoying equal rights. Standing up to stigma and discrimination is essential to foster inclusivity, empathy, and understanding. By challenging these negative attitudes and behaviors, we can create a more just and harmonious world where LGBTQ+ people can thrive without fear of judgment or prejudice.
I've committed myself to fighting stigma through continually educating myself and others, sharing stories to humanize the issue, engaging in open conversations, and promoting acceptance through my social media channels. In addition, I challenge biased beliefs and stereotypes whenever they arise as well as try to actively support organizations or initiatives that work to eradicate stigma.
My advice to anyone facing stigma and discrimination is to always remember that you're not alone. Seek support from friends, family, and/or other LGBTQ+ people that value and understand you. The beauty of the internet is you can find support and community outside of your physical surroundings. Also, take every opportunity to educate others about your experiences which can help to promote empathy and awareness. Don't be afraid to assert your rights and speak out against injustice. It's crucial to maintain your self-worth and remember that your identity is valid, regardless of what others may say.
