Meet Dylan
My name is Dylan Boyer, I am an HIV Advocate and the Director of Development at the Aliveness Project in MN.
Stigma and discrimination can have a profound negative impact on mental and physical health. For people living with HIV, the stress and isolation caused by stigma can lead to poorer health outcomes, reduced adherence to treatment, and increased risk behaviors. Standing up to stigma and discrimination can be empowering on a personal level. It can help you reclaim your narrative, affirm your identity, and contribute to your overall sense of well-being and self-esteem. By challenging stigma and discrimination, you help pave the way for future generations. You contribute to a more inclusive and accepting society where people can live openly without fear of prejudice or harm.
From the moment I received my diagnosis, my life was forever changed. Yet, instead of succumbing to the fear and isolation that often accompany such news, I decided to live out loud, openly and proudly sharing their status with the world.
My journey took an extraordinary turn when I stepped into the realm of advocacy. From the halls of government to the streets of my community, I have stood tall, my voice echoing through the corridors of power as I testified on several pieces of legislation aimed at supporting the HIV community. Each word I speak is not just a testament to my experience but a call to action, a plea for justice, and a demand for a better world.
My devotion to ending HIV is unwavering. Every day is a battle with a society that still harbors stigma and discrimination about people living with HIV. I am fighting not just for my own well-being but for the health and dignity of a larger community. I want to show them that they are not alone, that there is someone out there who loves them.
It’s important to remember that living with HIV does not define your worth or your capabilities. Focus on your strengths, achievements, and the unique qualities that make you who you are. Dealing with stigma and discrimination can be emotionally taxing. Take care of your physical and mental health. You are never alone.
As a stigma Warrior I am passionate.
